Certifications
Music Therapy course
This course provided me with the skills necessary to begin practicing music therapy techniques in my own music instruction. It has helped expand my knowledge and understanding behind the therapeutic benefits music can provide, breaking down how particular genres of music will have different emotional effects on us.
Aside from the benefits of learning to play a certain instrument, it has also taught me new exercises that can be catered towards students who may have specific learning needs. These exercises have included musical improvisation, songwriting sessions and musical relaxation activities. ​

Special Educational needs & Disability (SEND) Diploma
This diploma proved crucial in helping me understand how each SEND child has their own unique pattern of how they learn and what teaching methods can be used to cater for the specific learning styles required.

It was also a great introduction into certain practices, such as the importance of taking a 'person centered approach' to look at specific barriers that the child may face and how to develop certain solutions to overcome these barriers. This has been particularly useful when working with SEND students that are learning to play a musical instrument and are struggling with a more conventional lesson structure. An example of this would a student who was struggling to achieve the coordination skills required to change chords on the guitar. In this instance, it was a case of simplifying and configuring the chord progression so that the student so that they were not only able to complete the assignment, but also avoided any frustration and stress that may have occurred if we hadn't created a more specific learning style.

Creating these specific learning styles has allowed students to embrace the benefits of inclusion, something I gained greater insight on this course. On the specific subject of a SEND child learning a musical instrument, It has allowed some students to be able to partake and join in with musical activities with other friends and family.

Sound Therapy Diploma
This course helped me to discover how sound and therapy work together. In doing so it has helped give me greater insight and expertise into planning my own sessions. The benefits of sound therapy can include physical and emotional healing, improvement on self-confidence, improved sleep and an increase in focus and productivity. Similar to my studies in music therapy, this Diploma has helped me work with students of certain special needs and has been complimentary
This course was also a good introduction into drum therapy and it's scientifically proven benefits for people, something which I which to further expand upon in the future. It also helped to explain how the many aspects of sound can affect the human body in both positive and negative ways.

Grade 8 Electric Guitar RSL - Distinction
Passing my grade 8 electric guitar exam with a distinction has taught me not only advanced play styles, but a strong understanding of how to achieve the highest possible score you can get in an exam. Understanding and learning the correct techniques and musical knowledge has allowed me to help students who are also taking an RSL exam. ​
​
For many, the exam process can be stressful and overwhelming. To avoid this, I create specific lesson plans, as well a road map on what to specifically practice each week. This has helped students work towards passing their grade with minimal stress.
